More Craft Room Reveal..

Here's some more photos of the re-done craft room.  Its still a work in progress. As I look at these pictures, I can see the need to paint the walls in this room! Man, I'm tired of the walls in there! But I digress..

This is a shot of how I decided to bring back some of the pieces I had moved out.  But this time, I stacked them on top of something so now I will have more vertical storage! The shelves look empty , now, but there is a lot more ribbon to store away. I also ordered 2 more clear plastic containers for my embroidery floss. They used to be a JoAn's, but not any more.  But a found a suppler on line at Ken's Sewing Center.
This next shot is of the storage I made under my embroidery machine.  My friend Deb showed me how some of the plastic 3-drawer bins can be taken apart!  So this is a 3-drawer turned into a 2-drawer and fits under my sewing table.  That's a small light box sitting on top.
Next, Is where I usually have my ironing board set up.   So I put all things that I use for that in these cubes.   I also found the red canvas drawers at Menard's for 2.99!  Adds a little color..
I also brought back a 3-drawer chest that I am using for my Accu-quilt Cutter.  This cutter used to sit out in another room in the basement because there was not room in my sewing room! Plus, I can put stuff in the drawers..again.
Next, is a shot of the 3-drawer containers under the extension of my sewing table.  This worked out really well.  I was trying to come up with ways to get rid of all the plastic rolling bins (who's wheels fall off when you move them!), but now they are just out of the way! YAY!!
The next 2 photos are of the cutting table.  We now have all the cubes under the table.  Next time I write about this, I'll try and remember to get the 3rd side. The 4th sits against the wall.  I'm also going to have Bob put up one more smaller peg board, in this area, to accommodate rulers and cutters.

BTW, Happy Easter!  Lauren came home this weekend with 3 friends from Beloit. Maybe I can get a picture at dinner..maybe not. They seem to be having fun, we just don't get to see  much of them..
Here's a shot of the Easter candy I got at Stam chocolates in Dubuque last weekend. Now, there's a fun place to shop!!!

Sewing Room Reveal!

Remember this....?

Now it looks like this...
So much better!! Bob got some stackable shelving from Menard's that we put under the cutting table on three sides. On the side opposite of my cutting board, I have set up my computer area. I think I will (Bob, that is..) put up more peg board for my rulers and rotary cutters. I am putting fabric in the cubbies on the cutting board side. I also turned my sewing machine cabinet so I could use the table extension so it is easier to quilt on.  Plus, I can put my serger on it when I want to use it (which isn't often enough..)
I also turned the table with the embroidery machine around. It now lines up with the sewing machine. I also put a 2-drawer storage container (because I took off the first drawer) under the embroidery machine to store attachments, etc. for that machine. I also put 2 three-draw storage units with fabric scraps and wool scraps under the extension table of the big sewing cabinet.
I was able to eliminate one small chest of draws from the room,  2 rickety metal shelf thingys from under the cutting table, and clear off the top of the oak book shelves. I won't show you the pile of fabric that was eliminated.....trust me, it was a lot.
This spring (whenever THAT is) we will paint.  I also want to switch my design area to cover the wall with the circuit breaker box. But, until then....if you want me, I'll be down stairs sewing!

Bunny Time

I had to show you my knitted big bunny. I finished it this afternoon.  Learned to use a pom-pom maker, even!  This pattern is free at Purl Soho.  I did not make it as big as the pattern suggested. And I haven't done the duplicate stitch in pink on the inside of the ears.  Still thinking about that.  I find the duplicate stitch to be very intimidating for some reason....
Here's the pom-pom I made for his tail. Not bad for a first tail..

HAPPY EASTER!

My Dirty Little Secret

We've all got one...or more. Those rooms where the only course of action is to SHUT THE DOOR!!! My sewing room is one of those places.
YIKES!! This is what I see when I walk in the door. It is truly getting out of hand. This is not a room that beckons.
There is so much crap on my cutting table that I have LESS than 36" to work.  I have to just keep pushing fabric out of the way so I don't accidentally cut it.
This is to the right of the cutting table. No problem finding anything here....NOT!
Here's the window sill in front of my sewing machine.  Can we cram any more up there? My sewing cabinet actually has a portion that folds out to accommodate quilting.  I CAN'T EVEN OPEN IT!!
Portable table next to the sewing machine cabinet.  Holds sewing machine accessories, etc. The white cabinet next to that holds a TV that isn't connected to cable but will play DVDs. There is a serger behind it. Located in such a way that I can't use it!
Here is my design wall. (The quilt isn't mine. I borrowed it from Peg's so I could get some correct measurements for the sashing...long story.) You can't see it, but the rolling sewing machine case for the embroidery machine sits on the floor in front of the design wall. Quilts that are waiting to be quilted are folded and sitting on top of the case. There is a closet next to the design wall.  I realized I should have opened that for a couple of shots, too.  Take my word, it fits in to the theme of the room...Disaster!!
Next to the closet is a pile of batting pieces, plastic container with sewing stuff from my mother and a chair that I painted and intended to recover, but haven't.  Next to that is my ironing board and two book shelves with quilting magazines, patterns and pattern books.  Also, plastic bins with wool pieces, leftover bindings, several 1-yard cuts, some bolts with fabric for backs on them and items for ironing.
Here is where I can sit and use a computer.  Not a desk, just a 3-draw chest (also filled with fabric..).

I guess I'm hoping that confessing to this abomination with inspire me to do something about it.  Yesterday, Bob and I brought home some cube- things to put under the cutting table to have a place to store fabric.  We'll see.  I think I need one of those organizational tv shows to come in and fix this.  Or maybe one of the hoarder shows....Wish me luck!
