Starting Over

Sorry for the pathetic picture, but here is my toe-up sock...again.  You will recall that my Signature needle cable broke on Tuesday night and I sent Signature an e-mail.  On Wednesday morning they shipped a replacement needle and on Saturday it arrived! I am impressed!! Hope this one stands up to the task.

I started with Judy's Magic Loop Cast-on.  Its pretty simple to do and it makes a nice toe.  I don't want to make any fancy-schmancy sock pattern, I just want to get the techniques down.  So, I'm going to try and do my old faithful 56St cast on and 2x2 ribbing.  The heel will be the next challenge. I'll let you know how its going...

I should be able to get quite a bit done today since we are having FREEZING RAIN!!!! Yuck.

OOPS!

Here's a couple of sad pictures...The cable broke on my Signature US1 40" circular needle!! Last night I was just knitting away on my toe-up sock and..SNAP!  Needless to say, it was downhill from there.  First I had to scramble to find another needle, then I had to try and put all the stitches back onto the new needle. Because, of course, it broke as I was pulling the needle to start on the sole of the sock and in doing so, pulled the needle OUT OF ALL THE STITCHES!!

What a disaster!! Of course, it never got back on the way it was supposed to, so, in frustration, I  ripped the whole thing out.  Time to start again....GRRR.
The good news: I sent Signature an e-mail last night telling them what happened.  This morning they sent an e-mail back with apologies and instructions to receive a replacement... at no cost.  So, all is not lost (except for the sock).

Little Sewing Project

Here's a little sewing project I accomplished this afternoon!  I got the pattern from Jess at the Sew-In.
Its a pincushion/trash bag for your sewing area.  Just used some fabric I had laying around. It turned out quite nicely, I think. Thank you, Jess!! The instructions can be found at Sew, Mama. Sew .

Decorating Time!

I don't know why, but every year, about this time, I get the urge to rearrange stuff.  I guess it has to do with finally getting the Christmas stuff packed away and seeing the house back to 'normal'.
Over the holidays, I put a quilt out that was red and white.  My grandmother, my father's mother, made it. The pattern is called 'Drunkard's Path'.  I thought it might look sweet on the big wall behind Bob's computer...
I think I may have to put a sleeve on the back and put it on a longer hold, but otherwise, I like the look! Here's what was on the wall before...
I also bought 2 sweet little framed tapestries from Sister's Garden on the way to Kalona. I love the subtle colors in them.  They are sooo small!

I put them on the back splash in the kitchen.  But they are so small, so I tried to 'beef up' the spot with a tray I got from Ben Franklin's in Iowa City.
I don't know...Its not grabbing me, but I'm not willing to give up yet...On to the Dining area..
I decided I wanted a large clock in this area because I was tired of squinting at all the microwave and oven clocks just to get the time. So Deb and I found this one at TJMaxx. That seems large enough!
I also hung the cardinal picture I made at last year's Sew-In on the back wall of the dining area.  It reminds me of a winter scene...
And, finally, in our bedroom, I found a rug at TJMaxx that I loved.  I wish it were bigger, but its not so I put it where I felt it needed to be...
I think it especially compliments the dust...don't you? ( Geesh, you'd think I would clean up before I started snapping photos!)

Sew-In Time!

Here I am at Common Thread Quilt Shoppe's 8th Annual Sew-In in North Liberty.  I taught a class on Thursday evening (Party With Patrick) and then got to sew, sew, sew on Friday and Saturday.Miss Peg really knows how to put on a sew-in!  The camaraderie was great and the food was delicious!!  I even got some sewing done!

Above, Jackie and Jess look over Jackie's log-cabin blocks. And below, Jess show off her finished thread catcher pin cushion thing that she made in about an hour!  The rest of the time, she worked on a beautiful blue and brown Buggy Barn quilt.  Sorry, I didn't get a picture.
We also got to visit with Sally J. She comes all the way from Kentucky!  Great to see you, Sally!
It was a great weekend...looking forward to next year!

Yikes! No New Enteries

Holy Schmoly!  I can't believe how long its been since I've blogged.  Christmas and New Years has come and gone and I have nothing to show for it!! I didn't even get any pictures of Christmas Day!  What kind of mother am I?!?
I had a shot of Lauren before she left to return to Beloit, but she begged me NOT to use any of them.  So, still no photos to share.
David and Marcia joined us over Christmas.  Deb and Dale celebrated New Years with us.  Lauren was in and out of the house throughout her break.  We got to spend an occasional day or two with her.
This weekend is Common Thread's quilt retreat.  Maybe I can manage a picture or 2 over the next few days.
In the mean time, here's a picture..
This reminds me of Andy, one of two poodles that I had once.
